Thousands of Cubans and foreigners have studied medicine and other specialties at the Institute of Basic and Preclinical Sciences "Victoria de Giron", which is about to celebrate 50 years of existence.

On October 17, 1962, the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro opened the center, one of the12 schools of the University of Medical Sciences of Havana.

Many activities are planned to celebrate the date, such as placing a wreath at the plaque of the Victory of Giron; which will be followed by the unveiling of the bust of Dr. Andrés García Gómez, Founding Director, in the Promenade of the Illustrious, according to a communique issued by the institution.

The Hall of History will be reinaugurated and the model of the center will be presented, there will also be a tribute to students killed in internationalist missions, a discussion, and a roundtable "Encounter with History", specially dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the October Crisis.

At all times, including the main event to be held tomorrow in the afternoon, are invited prominent figures closely linked to the development of the Institute as well as representatives from major centers of the National Health System and the scientific center.
