South African and Cuban deputy foreign ministers, Marius Fransman and Rogelio Sierra, expressed their countries’ willingness to further strengthen bilateral relations.

During a meeting, the two government officials exchanged views on the excellent relations between Pretoria and Havana, reads an article posted on the webiste of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

The South African deputy minister, who is on an official visit to the island, also addressed, with his Cuban counterpart, issues of mutual interest. The talks were also attended by the acting director of Sub-Saharian Africa Hector Igarza, and other foreign ministry officials.

Cuba and South Africa established full diplomatic relations in 1994, after the end of Apartheid regime. Since that year, some 300 South African medical doctors have graduated in Cuba, while another 400 youths from that country are currently taking different higher education courses on the island.(ACN)
