The six-time national champion and multiple medallist of Central America and the Caribbean Games, Michel Gonzalez, heads the Cuban team to compete at the Triathlon World Cup to be held in the Mexican city of Cancun, on October 7.

Gonzalez will be accompanied by Yunior Rosette, Alberto Piedra, Leslie Amat, Lisandra Hernandez and Ana Leydis Arias, Cuban commissioner of that discipline, Aurelio Romero, informed.

Romero indicated that Gonzalez is the one with the best chances, because this will be his 10th incursion in World Cups, stressing that he has the 18th post in the world ranking of these competitions.

At the event will be disputed the titles in 1.500 meters of swimming, 24.85 miles of cycling and 6.21 miles of running.

According to the official website of the Cup so far, 92 men and 56 women have confirmed their participation. Among the men the main favorites are the British Alistair Brownlee, current Olympic monarch, the Spanish Javier Gomez, Olympic silver, and the Russian Alexander Bryukhanov, No. 1 of the world ranking.

Concerning to ladies, the Swiss Nicola Spirig and the Australian Erin Densham, gold and bronze in London, respectively are considered the best options for medals in the next event.
