Cuba's Lazaro Borges competes in the men's pole vault qualifications at the athletics event of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Cuban pole vaulter Lazaro Borges had a bad day at the office/track.

Borges had his pole break in half while he was beginning his ascent into the air in the Olympic pole vault final, sending fiberglass flying in different directions. Luckily, he was OK and not injured.

Borges, who won silver at last year's world championships, attempted to jump 17.5 feet when the pole snapped in two, forcing him crash to the ground and land awkwardly.

You can hear the reaction at Olympic Stadium. Lots of gasps.

Borges picked up the pieces of his pole and jumped again, but finished one place out of qualifying for Thursday's final at the London Games.
