Renown Cuban conductor Guido Lopez Gavilan will lead El Salvador Symphony Orchestra in two concerts next week, announced the Secretariat of Culture of the Presidency.

The performances will take place during the fifth concert of the 2012 Symphony Season on June 27 and 30 at National Theater and the President Theater, respectively.

According to a communique released to the press, this is the first time that the prize-winning Cuban conductor will lead an orchestra in this Central American nation.

Lopez Gavilan will take advantage of his visit to launch a work of his creation called "Guaguanco", which is a symphony version of a composition originally composed for camerata, and which recreates a genuine music of the Cuban folklore.

The Salvadorian talent will also be part of the program in both concerts, with the participation of the Female Choir of the National Choir, which will be led by conductor Julio Enrique Garcia Polanco, and the performance of cellist Luis Clemente Ventura.

The Secretariat of Culture has called Lopez Gavilan a prestigious guest, recalling his long artistic career and the awards won in important composition contests.
