The International Underwater Photography Event Fotosub 2012 is held today here with the participation of eight countries, said an official statement.

  A note from Cuba's Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) says that the event takes place from May 20 to 24 in Cayo Largo del Sur, in southwestern Cuba.

The President of the Marlin SA Nautical and Marine Business Group, Francisco Sanchez, opened the competition at Playa Blanca Hotel, which is the venue this competition attended by 30 photographers from Italy, Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Russia, Chile, Canada and Cuba.

The note adds that Cayo Largo has excellent conditions for diving and a high-level infrastructure.

For these reasons, Cayo Largo will be the venue of the 14th World Championship of the World Underwater Federation (CMAS) in 2013.

This competition has five prestigious international juries in photography and scuba diving in Cuba, Spain, Germany and Italy. CMAS Members oversee the preparation for the championship next year, the note said.
