The Cuban National Ballet Company was in Shanghai to continue a tour of three Chinese cities, following four successful performances in Beijing.

A packed theater, applause and a standing ovation characterized the Cuban National Ballet Company’s opening performance at the Beijing Arts Festival in China, with the presentation of Swam Lake. During the Beijing performance, the company showed its arts on stage thrilling the public at its debut in the Grand National Theater.

Again the National Ballet of Cuba, directed by prima ballerina assoluta and ballet legend, Alicia Alonso, has shown the virtuosity and strength of dancers, corps de ballet and the entire ensemble in a successful comeback to the Chinese capital, eight years after its last performance in the Asian Giant.

The Cuban National Ballet Company has scheduled other shows in the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Guangzhou, until May 4, where they will be dancing Swan Lake, choreographed by Alonso after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.

The main roles are performed by principal dancers Anette Delgado, Viengsay Valdes, Sadaise Arencibia, Danni Hernandez, Osiel Gounod, Yanier Gomez, Arian Molina and Victor Estevez.

The Cuban National Ballet has visited China on several occasions: in 1960, 1964, 1965, 2002 and 2004, when it presented famous 19th century ballets, such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quixote and La fille mal gardée, plus other pieces of the classical repertoire.
