The competition does not get easier with each new week of Dancing With the Stars. In fact, as the weakest celebrity dancers drop off, the fight for the Mirror Ball trophy intensifies.

With a tip of the hat to Motown this week, Cheryl Burke and her Latin soap-opera celebrity star William Levy swayed to the smooth sounds of Smokey Robinson and performed the rumba, ballroom's sexiest dance. While a drop from last week, the score still impressed Bruno, who gave Team Fuego a 10. Carrie Ann Inaba gave them a 9 and some advice.

"I don't think that was your best dance," said Inaba. "There were some moments when you guys were disconnected and I'd like to see more content. Because you are not just a pretty face. You are a beautiful dancer."

But their efforts didn't get them to the top of the leader board. They landed a 27 from the judges.

In contrast, in an attempt to recover after the 24 he got in week five, Jaleel White and partner danced shot right up to the top with an audience, and judge pleasing, cha cha. Judge Len Goodman said that Jaleel was once again a "contender." The got a 29.

Also tied this week for first, Katherine Jenkins and partner "delivered" according to Goodman, a sensational samba. The judges delivered to them a score of 29.

Bruno called Donald Driver a "showman" after his foxtrot. Goodman said that Driver "exploded on the dance floor." The former NFL player scored a 27.

And still in it to win it, Maria Menounos and partner glided across the floor with a foxtrot to a 27. "Watching you was joy to my eyes," said Goodman.

Menlo-Atherton alumnus Cheryl Burke, in her weekly newsletter to dancers at her studio in Mountain View, reminded that she and Levy needed their votes every week too, if they were to make it further:

    As our fans have seen, William and I remain near the top of the "curve" on cumulative scores since the first week on "Dancing with the Stars." A lot of the credit goes to William, of course, but also to you. It's not just the numerical votes. It's knowing how many of you out there really want to see us in the finals! We're inspired to try even harder, feeling that you're with us on this fantastic journey.

    William's skill and abilities as a fully committed student keeps us moving ahead, but without your vote we could be in trouble on any given week.

    As I mentioned last week, you can't assume any team will score 9s or 10s on every show. Your vote remains important - regardless of any variations in our scores!

Tuesday night is the results show. Let's see how the field narrows and who Team Fuego still has to beat. Don't forget to vote next week!
