For the second year Santiago de Cuba's baseball team did not qualify for the playoff

Santiago lost 7-9 against Mayabeque in Cuban Baseball Series and was eliminated from the playoff for the second consecutive year, this is an unprecedented feature in the history of the club.
The debacle suffered with their best pitchers in this crucial challenge in front of the team with fewer wins in the tournament. Granma team defeated 10-1 to Isle of Youth, surpassed in extremis in the standings in the Eastern division.
In the Granma's match, the slugger Alfredo Despaigne made an infield homerun and finally crowned the tournament championship slugger, 36, representing an absolute record for a season.
Thus, the fighting in Eastern playoffs will be as follows: Villa Clara (leader of the area) vs. Granma (fourth) and Las Tunas (second) vs. Ciego de Avila (third).
In the Western, the quarter-final stage of the tournament will be Matanzas vs Sancti Spiritus and Cienfuegos vs Industriales.
The playoffs will begin next Tuesday for the western and the day after in the Eastern. In Cuba all stages of the playoffs are played to the best of seven.
