At present the rate of tuberculosis infection in Cuba is 6.9 per 100 thousand inhabitants and Control Program of the disease on the island and the Global Fund continue working to reduce it further.

By Round 7 Project, the Fund to Fight Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria, through the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), perform important actions on the island, particularly in areas where there needs identified.

According to information provided by UNDP to Prensa Latina, the project shows results and overt, among which the formation of seven thousand 220 facilitators tasked with reporting on the disease and educational activities with vulnerable groups.

It also allowed the training of three thousand 448 people living with AIDS in the subject TB / HIV and the development of educational materials and audiovisual.

They were also researched more than 5.7 million people belonging to risk groups (contact affected, physically and mentally handicapped, immunocompromised, health personnel), and strengthened 343 laboratories for the diagnosis of the condition.

Project implementation began in January 2009, for the first phase, which ended in December 2010. In January of 2011 began the second, which will run until December 2015.

Today, tuberculosis, a preventable and curable disease is a global health problem. Are notified about eight million patients a year and two million people still die from this cause.

The least affected countries are the United States, Canada, Cuba, Chile, Uruguay, and Costa Rica.
