Cuban volleyball coach Eugenio George, considered the best of the twentieth century, underwent emergency surgery for diverticulitis, intervention which is recovering favorably.
Intervened yesterday in the capital Julio Trigo Hospital, George is restored in a stable "and is out of danger, so that in a few days you can go home", said Dr. Raul Antonio Pita, chief anesthetist of the medical team who treated the famous Cuban coach.

George, 71, is head of the Cuban Volleyball Federation and operates one of the working committees of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA).

Among other merits George exhibits have led to the selections of the Caribbean Brunettes won gold medals at the Olympic Games-1992 in Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney-1996-2000, and the world championships of 1978, 1994 and 1998.
