In Ecuador, is conducting a clinical trial of the new Cuban medication Heberprot-P, which is used to treat ulcerative lesions of the lower limbs of diabetics and reduce the number of amputations. Cuban and Ecuadorian specialists work together to evaluate the results.

The Ministry of Public Health and the Drug Company Enfarma EP (Enfarma) aim to develop a comprehensive project in 2012 with the goal of a plan to massively foot care prevention and nationally, officials of the sector.

Since last October 24, a binational team of specialists treating patients with this condition three days a week in Garcés Henry Hospital, south of the city of Quito.

The evaluations were also conducted at the Hospital Miguel H. Alcivar Caráquez Bay in Phase III Clinical Trial of biotech drug (Heberprot-P) that improves the quality of life and reduces the risk of disability in diabetic patients.

The Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador, with the support of Enfarma carry out the project, because according to World Health Organization (WHO) about 700 000 people suffer from diabetes in this country.

While amputation every 30 seconds a diabetic in the world drug outcomes Heberprot have proven effective in saving patients thousands of feet in Cuba and the countries where applicable.

At this time the "Project Heberprot" is done only in Pichincha and Manabi, being the provinces with higher rates of diabetes, where hospitals have been adequate and the medical staff has received training to care for patients.
