The 5th International Conference on Palestinian Intifada at the Summit Conference Hall in Iran's Capital of Tehran. A senior Cuban lawmaker says Cuba supports a bid by the Palestinian Authority (PA) at the UN to seek statehood for Palestine, and backs the Palestinians' right to return to their homelands.

“Cuba is familiar with the rights of the Palestinian people and categorically supports them,” Head of Cuba-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group Hector Eligio Amigo Carcases said on Sunday.

Carcases made the remarks on the sidelines of the 5th International Conference on Palestinian Intifada in the Iranian capital, Tehran, IRNA reported.

The two-day International Conference, which opened in Tehran on Saturday, focuses on the restoration of Palestinians' rights, including their right to return to their land, determine their fate as well as the liberation of the territories occupied by Israel.

Carcases expressed hope that other nations would also defend the inalienable rights of the Palestinians.

Commenting on the presence of Western forces in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan, Carcases said every nation and government should resolve its own problems, and there is no need for the interference of foreign forces.

The Cuban official went on to say that resorting to war and the use of armed forces is against the demand of the nations, noting that peace cannot be achieved through force and oppression.
