CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he is heading back to Cuba for a fourth round of chemotherapy.
Chavez says that Bolivian President Evo Morales is accompanying him on Saturday's trip. Their nations are aligned with Cuba in a bloc of leftist Latin American countries. Under Chavez, Venezuela has been a financial backer of Cuba and Bolivia.
Chavez said in a broadcast Saturday that he hopes to finish cancer treatments this year. He plans to be ready for run for re-election in October 2012.
Chavez underwent surgery in Cuba for an undisclosed cancer in his pelvic region on June 20. Since then, he has undergone three rounds of chemotherapy treatments, most in Cuba.
