HAVANA, Cuba.- Cuban president Raul Castro received a message of condolences from his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chavez, on the occasion of the death of Army Corps General Julio Casas Regueiro, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), Vice-President of the Council of State, and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), who died in Havana on Saturday as a consequence of a cardio-respiratory arrest.

The message, published on Thursday by Granma newspaper, is one of many received by the leadership of the Cuban Revolution for the death of the late Defense Minister.

“In this difficult hour, we fraternally stand by you, and Fidel, and the heroic Cuban people,” the message reads.

Chavez praises Julio Casas work in favor of the Cuban Revolution and calls him a “hero and constructor of the Socialist Cuba.”

“The voices of our two homelands join as one as they say: Honor and glory to Gen. Julio Casas Regueiro!,” the message concludes.(ACN)
