The Cubans, ranked sixth in the world, outlasted the fast improving, 22nd-ranked Canadians 23-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-17, 15-9 in a semifinal match that lasted two hours and three minutes. Toon Van Lankvelt of Rivers led Canada with seven kills, two stuff-blocks and two aces, while starting setter Dustin Schneider of Brandon added two kills.

Cuba now qualifies for the World Cup final in November and will also meet the winner of the Puerto Rico and the U.S. in the other semifinal. Canada faces the loser of that match for the bronze medal. Canada entered the match with a 3-0 record.
