2011.07.03 - 14:09:09 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Las Tunas, Cuba.- The 8th International Workshop on Community and Rural Development, COMUR 2011, wound up this Saturday with the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University, of Las Tunas, and the University of Zacateca, Mexico.

The two institutions agreed to foster the exchange of experiences in community work, as both universities are closely linked to social projects.

The workshop concluded at the headquarters of the community cultural project "Boqueron, a blue space for culture," of the municipality of Puerto Padre, in the eastern province of Las Tunas.

Participants in the event talked with the members of the project who prepared a crafts and drawing exhibition and a show as a demonstration of what they do in their community.

The main objective of this year’s workshop was to assess the scope of social community projects by implementing municipal development strategies.

According to the event’s general coordinator Clara Guzman Gongora the workshop was a success.

In reference to the Boqueron… project, Margarita Flores Sanchez, rural development consultant of the University of Zacateca said such projects enrich the life of individuals and the community as such without the need of lots of resources and stressed that she was willing to pass on the experience to her colleagues.

COMUR takes place every two years in Las Tunas to discuss how the universities can get involved in social community projects by means of research. (ACN)
