2011.06.08 - 17:21:12 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Havana, Cuba.- Cuban Arnaldo Rivero was appointed president of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Physical Education and Sports Commission, during a plenary session concluding this Wednesday in Paris, France.

According to a report on the Jit weekly newspaper’s online edition, the members of the group commended the election of Rivero as president of the Commission established in 1978 to promote the value of sports and for it to be included in public policies.

Rivero, who is a Teaching Director of the Havana-based National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, has been widely recognized by Cuban and international institutions for this educational work, including the Cuban Sports History Commission and the Permanent Planning Committee of the Pan American Councils of Physical Education made up of 46 nations.

UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Physical Education and Sports Commission groups together 18 specialists who represent the member states of the UN body.The members of the Committee are elected for a four-year term.
