2011.05.25 - 22:26:04 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Santa Clara, Cuba.- A Network of Promoters of Clean Agriculture launched, in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara, a multimedia with instructions for farmers on the harvest of vegetables, fruits, coffee and other agricultural products.

A specialist from the Center on Environmental Studies and Services (CESAM), Laura Cristina Silveiro, explained that this multimedia comprises 1,500 articles for farmers and technicians as consultation materials aimed at achieving sustainable food production.

Silverio noted that this digital material provides information on the network made up of the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture, the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forest Technicians (ACTAF), CESAM, the Bank on Credit and Commerce, and the Meteorological Provincial Center, among other 16 institutions.

She added that it also includes data on soil pollution and degradation, the management of pests to avoid the use of toxic substances and pesticides in the plantations, and on integrating forests, livestock and crops.

The expert pointed out that this multimedia is part of a project developed by CESAM as well, on ecologic and sustainable food production.

A specialist from the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Osmany Perez, highlighted the usefulness of the material, which can also be put into practice by Cubans offering their services in other nations, mainly in Latin America.

Perez affirmed that this multimedia will be available in the website www.cesam.villaclara.cu, where the information will be updated monthly. (ACN)
