HAVANA.—The 20th International Book Fair, Cuba 2011 will take place February 10-20 in the capital and through March 6 in the country’s provinces, under the banner "To read is to grow."

This edition pays tribute to the bicentenary of the first independence of Latin America, to the 220th anniversary of the Haitian Revolution and the First Declaration of the Abolition of Slavery, according to the Cubarte website.

The principal venue for the fair is the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, with the Pabellón Cuba and other cultural institutions in the capital as alternatives.

This book fiesta is dedicated to authors Jaime Sarussky, 2004 National Literature Prize winner, and Fernando Martínez Heredia, winner of the 2006 National Social Sciences Prize.

Professional, academic and literary programs during the 10 days of the fair include approximately 500 activities in the form of colloquiums, tributes, roundtables, conferences, lectures, awards and book launches.

Other activities for the enjoyment of the public are exhibitions, dramatic presentations, contemporary cinema shows, and concerts in different genres of music.

The 19th Fair in February 2010 confirmed the Fair as the most attended cultural event in the country, with a total of two million people, who acquired more than 900,000 books. (AIN)
