2010.12.10 - 12:08:02 / [email protected]. HAVANA, CUBA.- The 14th International Craftwork Fair FIART 2010 was inaugurated on Thursday at Havana’s Pabexpo Exhibition Hall with the presence of First Deputy Culture Minister Rafael Bernal.

Bernal said that a record number of participants are exhibiting their products in this year’s event. There are 314 stands and representatives from 19 countries of Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe.

He added that this year the fair is dedicated to the Cuban province of Holguin in recognition of the cultural development attained in that eastern region of the country.

This year, the FIART awards will be given in the categories of Best Works, Fashion Collection and Stand Design.

In the inaugural day of the event, Berta Santos, Manuel Barrero and Manuel Hernandez received the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Cuban Fund of Cultural Heritage.

The inauguration, which included a fashion show with designs by painter, sculptor and silversmith Oscar de la Portilla, was attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Havana as well as personalities of culture and representatives of the Cuban State.FIART 2010 will remain open to the public until December 19.
