HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (acn) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla met on Thursday, in Cancun, with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, who expressed the UN's recognition of Cuban cooperation in Haiti.

Within the context of the 16th UN Summit on Climate Change, underway in Cancun,Mexico, Ban Ki-moon made reference to Cuba's commitment to Haiti, which was devastated by an earthquake last January and is currently being hit by an epidemic of cholera.

Some sources close to the Cuban delegation told Prensa Latina news agency that Bruno Rodriguez and Ban Ki-moon analyzed the status of the negotiations in Cancun, in which most nations demand a second term of commitment to the Kyoto Protocol.

They also talked about the relations between Cuba and the UN, an organization of which Cuba is an active member.

On Thursday, Cuban Prime Minister will attend the third session of the Summitand will meet with the Mexican Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources,Juan Rafael Elvira.
