HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 29 (acn) Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo arrived in Buenos Aires Friday to attend the funeral of former Argentinean president Nestor Kirchner and personally convey to the people, government and president of the South American nation the condolences of the Cuban leaders and people.

In statements to the press in Argentina, Lazo said that despite President Raul Castro and revolution leader Fidel Castro had sent condolences messages to Cristina Fernandez, the Cuban government wanted to express the deepest condolences to the Argentinean president and Kirchner's wife in person and reiterate the Cuban people’s friendship and solidarity with her country, Prensa Latina news agency reported.

Accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra, Lazo joined other Latin American personalities who traveled to Buenos Aires to pay their last respects to Nestor Kirchner who passed away at 60 due to a non-traumatic cardiac arrest.

At the moment of his death, Cristina Fernandez’ husband, was the General Secretary of the Association of South American Nations.

Other leaders present in the funeral were presidents Evo Morales (Bolivia), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Jose Mujica (Uruguay), Sebastián Piñera (Chile) and Juan Manuel Santos (Colombia).

Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Fernando Lugo (Paraguay) and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil) were also in the ceremony.
