NINETEEN of the 24 players who competed in the recently concluded Pre-World Cup and Pre-Pan American baseball tournament made the list for the team that will represent Cuba in the 17th Intercontinental Cup in Taichung, the third largest city in Chinese Taipei.

In addition to Ariel Pestano and Yolexis La Rosa, Yordanis Alarcón from Las Tunas province will join the team as third catcher, while lining up around the diamond are José Dariel Abréu, Alexander Malleta, Héctor Olivera, Yulieski Gourriel, Yorbis Borroto, Michel Enríquez and Rudy Reyes. Two left-handers have been added to the outfield, Giorvis Duvergel and Yoandry Urgellés with Alexei Bell, Yoennis Céspedes and Alfredo Despaigne returning.

The bull pen of nine pitchers includes Norge Luis Vera, Miguel Alfredo González, Freddy Asiel Alvarez, Vladimir García, Yulieski González, Yadier Pedroso, Dalier Hinojosa, Jonder Martínez and the left-hander from Villa Clara Robelio Carrillo.

Eduardo Martín Saura is the coach, with Germán Mesa, Luis Jova and Omar Linares as assistants and José Elosegui as pitching coach.

The 17th Intercontinental Cup will take place in the Taichung Intercontinental Stadium and the Tou-Liou, and is set to begin on October 23 with the Cubans’ debut against the Czech Republic.
