Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was confident Wednesday of the victory of candidate Dilma Rousseff in the second round of general elections, in spite of a dirty campaign carried out by the opposition.

"I am confident, I have the conviction that Dilma will win the elections," Lula told journalists at Planalto Palace.

In an open criticism of the candidate of the opposition, Social Democracy Party(PSDB) Jose Serra, without mentioning him, Lula said that "he is making promises he knows he will not be able to meet, as they failed to do before when in government."

Lula called him irresponsible as "he is starting to say that he is going to change the economic policy at a time when Brazil is considered as an example of economic stability, a model for development, a generator of jobs."

The president cited opposition rumors and defamation of all kinds circulating against Rousseff, the candidate of the ruling Workers Party (PT) and said that "what they are saying about Dilma is unthinkable."

But "the truth is that Dilma is going to win the elections because she represents the continuity of a government that turned Brazil into a more admired and respected country, which generated more jobs, invested more in education, science and technology, increased salaries and improved the people´s quality of life.
