Tribute Paid to Writer Alejo Carpentier in France

2010.10.20 - 10:03:47 / [email protected], CUBA.- An international colloquium on the life and work of Alejo Carpentier took place at the University of Amiens, in the north of France, with the participation of specialists in the work of the Cuban writer.
Granma newspaper reports that the meeting was organized by Puerto Rican professor Carmen Vasquez who, for almost seven years, was a research assistant to Carpentier.
The experts discussed the characteristics of the novels of the author of ‘The Kingdom of this World’, including the use in his writings of oral tradition and popular culture, the presence and importance of myths, and his contribution to the neo-baroque in the Americas.
Other less known aspects of Carpentier’s life, such as his letters to his mother and his relationship with Cuban writer Jose Lezama Lima.
