Published: Oct. 18, 2010 at 11:28 AM. MIAMI, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A car thief arrested in Venezuela is part of a terror ring based in Miami, Cuban authorities say.

Francisco Chavez Abarca was arrested at an airport in Venezuela three months ago, but was hustled off to Cuba where he is now jailed. He has appeared in Cuban government videos saying he put bombs in Havana hotels under orders from accused terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.

Posada, accused of blowing up a Cuban plane in flight in 1976, is now in Miami facing trial in January for lying to U.S. immigration authorities.

Venezuela says Chavez Abarca implicated exiles in Miami in plots to disrupt the recent elections and assassinate Hugo Chavez.

Chavez Abarca was imprisoned in El Salvador from 2005 to 2007 for running a car-theft ring. The charges were ultimately dropped.

His wife, Karla Guadelupe Trigueros de Chavez, admitted to the Herald he is guilty of placing the bombs.

"The Venezuelans say he was going to assassinate Hugo Chavez, so they send him off to Cuba.
