POSTED: Monday, October 11, 2010. MIAMI -- Hurricane Paula formed in the Caribbean Sea on Tuesday morning, and the storm could bring heavy rains to western Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Paula was about 155 miles south-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and was moving north-northwest at 10 mph.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said the storm is expected to turn toward the north and approach the east coast
of the Yucatan Peninsula late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

A hurricane warning was issued for the coast of Mexico from Punta Gruesa to Cancun, including Cozumel. A tropical storm
warning was issued for the coast of Honduras from Limon to the Nicaragua border, as well as the Mexican coast from Chetumal to Punta Gruesa.

The National Hurricane Center said Paula could dump 3 to 6 inches of rain on the eastern Yucatan and portions of western and central Cuba.
