10/10/2010. Cuban artists and intellectuals will stared the 16th Fiesta de la Cubanía between the next 17th and 20th of October in this Eastern city dedicated to the National Culture Day.

Carried out yearly since 1994 in the capital city of Granma province, the meeting will celebrate the 142th anniversary of the beginning of independence wars and the first time the National Anthem was sung.

The activities will start with a popular parade in the patrimonial center of the city, and the presentation of a new edition of the book Cuatro siglos de historia de Bayamo - Four centuries of Bayamo´s history- by the journalist, announcer, librarian and archivist  Enrique Orlando Lacalle (1910-1992).

In order to commemorate October 20th, 1868 when the people from Bayamo sang for the first time the future National anthem, the meeting proposes the 18th Crisol de la Nacionalidad Cubana Historian Encounter and the 17th Coloquio de Literatura Meeting of poets and storytellers.

Museum specialists, pedagogues and researchers will remember the literacy campaign´s achievements which took place in the island in 1961, and it will also pay homage  to the teachers from Granma who participated in the heroic deed, that 49 years ago declared Cuba as the first Latin American country illiteracy free.

The evocation will be part of the 12th Homenaje y Reflexión workshop, which will include debates about heritage appropriation, rescue, conservation and promotion.

Regarding music there will be some concert bands presentations from many municipalities in Granma, and popular dancing parties with Anacaona and David Álvarez y Juego de Manos orchestras.

The program, which will be also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the declaration of October 20th as the National Culture Day, includes a gala by the Spanish Ballet of Cuba (Ballet Español de Cuba, in Spanish), plastic arts, cinema, dance, theater, humor and other offers.
