October 9, 2010. LA HABANA. The Catholic Church in Cuba announced Saturday that another three political prisoners will be released to go to Spain, making a total of 42 dissidents freed upon accepting that condition.

The latest to be freed are Ciro Perez Santana, Arturo Suarez Ramos and Rolando Jimenez Posada, the Havana archbishop said in a communique.

None of these three prisoners were part of the so-called Group of 75, of whom the government of Gen. Raul Castro promised at the beginning of July to free all 52 still in jail.

The announcement of these pardons appears to confirm the Cuban government's intention of widening the scope of the release of political prisoners beyond the 52 already promised.

Up to now, 39 political prisoners have been released and have gone to Spain with their families out of those jailed in  2003, while 13 of those dissidents remain behind bars, of whom at least 12 do not accept the condition of going to Spain.
