HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 6 (acn) The Cuban Government has officially declared October 6 as the Day of State Terrorism Victims, by decree No. 279, as the island has been the target of terrorist attacks for more than half a century.

A full-page article published on Granma newspaper today announces the government’s decision and says that to observe the date, a solemn ceremony will take place Wednesday at the headquarters of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Ministry with the attendance of relatives of terrorism victims, former combatants and representatives of the Cuban people.

The ceremony will be broadcast on Cubavision and Cubavision Internacional at 8:30 pm this Wednesday.

Granma highlights that the date to recall victims of such criminal acts was chosen after the Barbados crime, which occurred on October 6, 1976, and in which a Cuban airliner was blown up in mid air killing all 73 people aboard. The article notes that this terrorist attack was masterminded by people who had proven links with the CIA and have found protection in the US.

The Cuban people has suffered terrorist attacks schemed by US-based groups for more than half a century. Those crimes have taken the lives of or caused injuries on thousands of people including children, women and elderly, says the newspaper.

The decree establishes that every October 6, the Cuban flag will be hoisted up to half-mast in all civil and military institutions, as well as in Cuban embassies and consulates abroad.

The State terrorism policy against Cuba perpetrated through actions that have been, most of them, organized in the United States and favored by American authorities –says the daily– have caused much pain and mourning to many Cuban families, as well as extensive property damage.

Granma notes that the fact that self-confessed authors of such crimes are still free in the Unites States shows the complicity of American administrations.
