Representatives of the ALBA countries attending a UN conference on Climate Change in China congratulated the people of Ecuador and President Rafael Correa for the courage shown in defense of the Citizen Revolution, reports Prensa Latina.

Experts from Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela made a common cause with the delegation of Ecuador, also a member of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our Americas (ALBA), as soon as they heard of the attempted coup, which they repudiated , Prensa Latina reported from sources close to the event.

The representatives of these nations stopped their preparatory work for the Conference, beginning sessions on Monday in the neighboring city of Tianjin, to monitor events in the South American country. That meeting will be the last prior to the Cancun Summit.

They also welcomed, as another triumph for democracy in Latin America, the release of the Ecuadorian leader after rebel policemen held him hostage for 12 hours in a hospital in Quito.

Meanwhile, China expressed its hope that Ecuador will soon recover stability under the leadership of the constitutional president Rafael Correa and his government, stated Ma Zhaoxu, the Foreign Ministry spokesman.
