10/03/2010. The Budget and Finance Committee of the Uruguayan Chamber of Representatives on Sunday held an extraordinary session to discuss the articles of the draft five-year financial framework for 2010-2014.

The committee chairman, the deputy of the ruling Frente Amplio (Broad Front), Doreen Ibarra explained that they decided to sit this Sunday due to little time to analyze a text "really important in several areas."

According to press reports, article by article approval by the Commission will conclude next Tuesday and then the project will be discussed in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies.

"We will start with the vote of the articles in order to move forward as quickly as possible," said Ibarra, who added that so far the work has been very intense.

Ibarra said the commission also includes representatives from NGOs, trade unions and social organizations, among others.

"We have also included all the ministries in some cases more than one occasion and bodies like the University of the Republic, the Judiciary and the Electoral Court," added Ibarra.

Ibarra praised the good working atmosphere with the opposition but with significant differences at times but with the sole objective of providing maximum participation and meet constitutional deadlines established.

Ibarra described the five-year project as "a budget that continues with the general guidelines of the previous government and where the priorities are focused on housing, public safety, education and infrastructure."

"The objectives will be met, beyond that all we wanted to have more resources available to address important areas such as education," said Ibarra.
