2010.10.01 - 15:03:48 / [email protected]. HAVANA, CUBA.- ‘The White Ribbon’, the film that won the Palme d’Or award during the Cannes Film Festival 2009, had its Cuban premiere on Thursday at Havana’s Chaplin Theater as part of the Cinema Critics’ Review Week.

The film, by Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke, is set in a German Protestant village on the eve of the First World War, where a series of unsettling incidents gradually expose the malice and distrust at the heart of German society.

The White Ribbon also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and it received two nominations for the Oscars: 2009 Best Foreign Language Film and 2009 Best Cinematography.

The Cinema Critics’ Review Week, sponsored by the Hermanos Saiz Association, the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists, the Cuban Institute of the Cinematographic Industry and Art and the Cuban Association of Cinematographic Media, will conclude on October 3.
