The eye of the 16th tropical depression of the current storm season crossed Matanzas province, Cuba, heading northward, according to the Meteorology Institute.

A 6 a.m. report placed the eye some 60 kilometers north-northeast of Matanzas.

This meteor now moves at 22 kph, with sustained winds of 55 kph and a minimum pressure of 997 hP. It should increase in speed within the next 24 hours, moving way further from Cuba.

Still, forecasters expect day-long strong showers throughout most of the archipelago, accompanied by thunderstorms, heavy winds and choppy seas along the southern coast from Matanzas to Guantanamo, causing waves and some flooding at low coastal areas.
