Delegations of scientists and environmentalists from the United States, Mexico and Cuba are meeting in Sarasota, Florida to finalize discussions on a tripartite agreement for research and conservation of the Gulf of Mexico.
The discussions at Mote Marine Science Laboratories in the Gulf Coast city are hosted by the New York-based Guggenheim Foundation.
The U.S. government granted 20 visas to the participants of the Cuban delegation, one of the largest contingents of Cubans officially visiting the United States in recent years.
The Cuban delegation is led by Luis Alberto Barreras Cañizo, with the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.
