HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 29 (acn) Chinese President Hu Jintao and Council of State Premier Wen Jiabao sent a message to Cuban President Raul Castro on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Cuba and China.

“On behalf of the Chinese people and Government, we want to convey our warmest congratulations to you and, through your dignified person, to the Government and people of Cuba,” the text reads.

“Cuba was the first Latin American country that established diplomatic relations with the new China,” adds the message published on Wednesday by Granma newspaper.

“As developing countries, China and Cuba are working to find a path towards development in accordance to their respective national realities and they share the same task to improve their economies and their people’s living standards,” the letter states.

The note points out that the permanent strengthening and development of friendship relations between Cuba and China not only responds to the essential interests of both nations but it also contributes to the preservation of world peace and the promotion of common development.

The text adds that the Chinese government “will invariably continue to be loyal to its policy of long-standing friendship with Cuba and will always support the Cuban people’s struggle to defend their national sovereignty from foreign interference.”
