2010.09.08. Santa Clara, Cuba.- About a hundred youths from the central provinces of Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus and Villa Clara have enrolled in course in railroad maintenance and exploitation starting next week at the Ramon Ribalta technical school, in the municipality of Sagua la Grande.

Rolando Rodriguez, Provincial Director of Education in Villa Clara told ACN reopening the two-year course was indispensable to the recovery of the railroad industry which is currently a major issue to the national economy.

Sagua la Grande’s municipal Education director Vilma Arrieta said the course will be taught in other two schools in the country, one of them in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba and the other one in Havana.

Lazaro Garcia, deputy director for practice teaching of the institute, said the course is oriented to provide training and develop skills for the maintenance and repair of railroad transportation means.

The course is for students who have just finished pre-university school or those on the third year of other transportation-related studies wishing to specialize of railroad transportation.

According to Garcia, the young students are the back up for the labor of the railroad industry which in a short-term is expected to be used to transport more than half of the cargo moved in Cuba.
