Venezuela's opposition forces are acting out of despair in view of their predictable failure in the September 26 legislative elections, President Hugo Chavez said.

Chavez said his political rivals expected to see the country plunged into chaos by now, which would be a favorable situation for their wishes of taking over the National Assembly, to destroy the Venezuelan revolution from within.

They put all their hopes in the economic, electric and food crisis, carried out sabotage, and used media terrorism backed by the United States, but now they are desperate because they are aware of the numbers and polls when election day is less than a month away, the president pointed out.

On September 26, more than 17.5 million Venezuelans will elect 165 deputies to the National Assembly.

The latest polls show that the revolutionary alliance, comprised by socialists, communists and allies, will win.
