HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 13 (acn) Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba described as excellent her meeting with Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, held in this capital on August 12.

"I listened carefully to a Fidel Castro that is concerned about the survival of the planet; to his humanist vision; very lucid", she pointed out by way of Twitter.

The leader of the movement Colombianos y Colombianas por la Paz debated with the revolutionary leader about the situation in Latin America and the dangers of war in the world.

She also tackled the peace process in Colombia and congratulated Fidel for his 84th birthday, celebrated on Friday, the Cubadebate Web site reports.

Piedad Cordoba asked to return on Sunday with some of the main fighters for peace in Colombia "to speak with the Comandante."

Fidel accepted and declared that he considers that the union of the Colombian people is an essential factor to prevent a nuclear war.

Cubadebate also published that, during the fraternal meeting on Thursday, the leader of the Cuban Revolution and the Senator coincided in expressing their optimism for the triumph of peace and the construction of a new world, where the human species makes good use of its intelligence and accumulated knowledge.

The Colombian Senator gave Fidel, as a gift, several books on the history and reality of her country.

The Commander in Chief presented the Senator and her assistant, Danilo Rueda,with autographed copies of his book "The Strategic Victory."
