HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 7 (acn) A sensational three-run homerun by Alfredo Despaigne in the bottom of the tenth inning won Cuba the title of the Fifth World Baseball University Championship after defeating the US 4-3.
Despaigne, from the eastern province of Granma, took the lead of the Cuban team by pushing the four runs of the game on extreme situations.
Dubbed by the Cuba press "the Tokyo Hero", Despaigne's brought the game to a 1-1 tie on the eighth with his first homerun, no runners on base. His second homerun came right on-time when the island was down 1-3 and found two players on base that marked the 4-3 win.
After the game, Despaigne said the Cuban people deserved the victory and that he was very happy with his performance: "the two homeruns were really exciting, when I hit the ball I knew it was going out of the field."
