Carlos Varela and his group to be invited at the New York Lincoln Center

Cuban singer song writer Carlos Varela has been invited by New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts at the Damrosch Park next August 11th. Their concert, scheduled for 6:00 PM is part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors event, which this prestigious organization celebrates each year.
Relevant personalities such as Panamanian Ruben Blades, Peruvian Susana Baca and Honduran Aurelio Martínez will join Varela in this edition.
The New York Lincoln Center is considered on of the most important cultural institutions of the world. The Center is integrated by 12 divisions, among which there are the prestigious Julliard Musidc School, the Metropolitan Opera House, the New York Ballet and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Varela and his group concluded a successful tour through different American cities last May. They will also participate at the relevant New York Chase Latino Cultural Festival organized by Queens Theater in the Park. After 8 years, this will be the first time that a Cuban artist residing in Cuba performs in this Festival. The concert will take place today at the central
Flushing Meadows park in the same city.
In an interview for the New York Daily News the popular Cuban musician said:
" I hope that from now on many Cuban artists will be able to attend this and some other festivals in the United States" and he stated "arts and music could help more than politics to the reunion and reconciliation of our countries...this is something we need after so many years of acrimony, silence and separation."
