Mexico will celebrate the 200 years of its independence on September 15, with a majestic program, fruit of the virtuosity of national artists and the competition of thousands of volunteers, highlighted secretary Alonso Lujambio here Wednesday.

Education Minister Lujambio was appointed by President Felipe Calderon to head the preparations of the celebrations for the bicentennial and the 100 years of the Revolution in 2010.

In presenting the activities for the official celebrations, the minister informed that in the parade of September 15 there will be 27 allegorical floats to represent distinctive phenomena of the history and the culture of the nation.

According to the images shown to the press, it will be an excellent show because of the aesthetic and conceptual quality of the floats that will recreate the pre-Hispanic world, the colonial and the Baroque influence in Mexico, independence struggles, passages of the Revolution, heroes, myths, customs and traditional dances.

The parade will move from the central Paseo de la Reforma to the Zocalo, in the historical center of the city, where there will be fireworks, and round about midnight Calderon will give the traditional "shout of independence" speech, Lujambio explained.

There will be three concerts in the Zocalo and 45 giant screens will be placed in public spaces along the Paseo de la Reforma, in the Boulevard and at the Zocalo, to allow all to follow the events, the government leader explained.
