HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 28 (acn) The performance of water resources and investments made in the sector were analyzed Wednesday by deputies in the industry and construction commission of the National Assembly of the People's Power.

Carlos Liranza, president of the parliamentarian working group told ACN that the commission evaluated the situation of Santiago de Cuba's water system and the rehabilitation of those in the provinces of Havana and Camaguey.

They assessed perspectives in a short term to improve the serious situation of water systems in many parts of the country.

Liranza said the commission agreed that deputies should be able to oversee and control the implementation of the budget assigned by the government to each province and see that resources are used in a rational and efficient way.

Another issue in the agenda was the housing situation, in particular the implementation of maintenance and recovery plans and of the newly implemented program for the building of houses under which the government facilitates the materials and the interested party is in charge of the building works.

Likewise, a study on transition communities was presented to the Commission.

Liranza noted that in Havana alone there are 106 of those communities, although the problem affects the rest of the country.

The deputy said there is a political will on the part of the Cuban government to improve, revert and solve the current housing problems with the participation of the people and in spite of the few resources available.

The 12 permanent working commissions of the parliament meet on Thursday as well, with views to the plenary session scheduled for Sunday, August 1.
