HAVANA, CUBA.- Nicaragua’s Ministry of Health will start distributing 140,000 doses of a vaccine against hepatitis B donated by Cuba for the inmunization of children, health authorities announced in Managua today.

We are going to apply the shot to children younger than 13 who were not vaccinated with the five-in-one vaccine on previous years, said Edmundo Sanchez, director of Epidemiologic Watch. He added that the goal is to cover 95 percent of that group, meaning that some 90,000 children will receive the injection, reported Prensa Latina.

In a press conference, Sanchez said the vaccines were donated by the Cuban government and that they will be distributed in health care centers to start with the immunization process.

Sanchez said troops, policy officials and those in the Penitentiary System will also be immunized.
