Puerto Rican solidarity activists in favor of Cuba.

Milagros Rivera and Jose Morales, members of the Cuban Solidarity Network, said the Cuban Olympic Committee decided in February not to attend after U.S. authorities threatened unfair treatment.

The former officials of Puerto Rico's Swimming Federation regretted the absence of the powerful presence of Cuba's athletes, despite having trained hard and receiving an invitation from the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee.

The Puerto Rican solidarity activists also blamed Cuba's absence on the U.S. blockade, aggression and harassment of Cuba, which dates back to 1959.

The US full-fledged invasion of Puerto Rico dates back the 1700s and its current status of "sovereign state in association with the US" was imposed in 1952 by depriving Puerto Rican legislators of voice or the right to vote.
