Ballet Carmen Camaguey
Polemic and audacious has been the premiere of the Camagüey Endedans Contemporary Ballet, which transforms the famous piece "Carmen" into a scenario of current debate of the sexual preferences.

The presentation is taken place from the 15 and until the 18 of this month at the main theater of this city. "La Carmen" is a creation of Tania Vergara, director of the group and winner of several awards, such as the Iberian American Choreography Competition, won in 2008 with "A los confines de la tierra" (To the edge of the earth).

The author expressed in a press conference that she took elements from the original piece, such as the violence, seduction, revenge and death and the behavior of freedom and without any prejudice of the star. The main character is a travesty, who is part of a love triangle, in which are also part another man and a woman.

She highlighted that is it one of the historically more complex staging of the group, directed to heterosexual audience, which is a very strong challenge and an expression of maturity of the actors.

She was questioned about the objective of her new work and qualified it as distant from making an impact to motivate public interest. However, the main goal is to make a different version of several versions made to "Carmen". One of these versions was made by Alberto Alonso, co – founder of the Cuban Ballet School and the Cuban National Ballet.

The 45 minutes choreography uses, with some arrangements, the music composed by the French Georges Bizet for the famous opera, premiered in 1875. The dress design is by the National Theater Award winner Eduardo Arocha.

The main stars will be Randol Díaz (La Carmen), Marcos Antonio Rodríguez (José), Pavel Martínez ( Esteban) and Yanexi Mendoza (Bárbara), accompanied by the dance group.
