Havana, Cuba, Jul 5.- The Simon Bolivar training ship, Venezuelan navy's flagship, docked on Monday at the Port of Havana to mark in Cuba the 199 anniversary of the declaration of independence of that nation.

The vessel was welcomed at the roadstead in Havana by Captain Jose Piñeiro Loredo of the Cuban Revolutionary Navy and by Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba Ronald Blanco la Cruz, among other officials.

Venezuelan Captain Ramon Antonio Costero, Commander of the ship, said he was pleased to  celebrate the independence day of his country in Cuba and noted relations between both countries have reached a very high level.

The ship will be available for public visits on Monday and Tuesday.

The Simon Bolivar ship, internationally known as Ambassador without Borders, was added to the Navy of Venezuela on August 12 of 1980 for the training of future officials and spreading the image of the country in all visiting ports.

With 82,4 meters in length, 10,6 on the beam, 4,4 depth, the ship can carry more than 1,000 tons and has a 750-horsepower diesel motor.

Activities scheduled by the Venezuelan in Havana to commemorate the signing of the Independence Act of that nation in 1811 include ceremonies in homage to independence heroes from both nations and sports and cultural events. (ACN)
