UNESCO World Heritage Centre launches international Competition

The UNESCO World Heritage Centre has launched an international storyboard competition for the creation of the next episode of the animated series Patrimonito´s World Heritage Adventures.
The competition invites young people to express their ideas in the form of a storyboard for the Patrimonito´s World Heritage Adventures animated series.
In the coming days, 187 National Commissions - every States Party to the World Heritage Convention - will receive guidelines for the competition, which will be distributed through the Associated Schools Network. Each entry must be submitted to the relevant National Commission, who will forward a selection of storyboards to UNESCO in early 2011 for the final selection.
The competition this year focuses on different themes which highlight more specifically the links between World Heritage and communities, sustainable tourism, sustainable development and biodiversity.
Launched in 2002 in the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme, the Patrimonito World Heritage Adventures project consists of a series of short films introducing the cartoon character of Patrimonito.
The World Heritage Centre has already produced 8 episodes of Patrimonito´s World Heritage Adventures, developed from storyboards designed by young people.
These DVDs are intended to mobilize young people to participate actively in World Heritage preservation. The competition allows young people in schools and youth organizations to build critical thinking skills about heritage conservation in their own country as well as to transmit their message to their peers around the world.
Each storyboard should be submitted to the participant´s National Commission before 15 December 2010.
