HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 14 (acn) Cuba walked away with the bronze medals of the annual women’s Volley Masters tournament that concluded over the weekend in Montreux, Switzerland.

The Caribbean squad beat Russia in straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 27-25) in the bronze medal match on Sunday after they lost in semifinals to the United States (18-25, 23-25, 27-29) on Saturday.

Kenia Carcases led the Cuban attack with 19 points while Tatiana Kosheleva led the Russian side with 17 units.

China took the crown of the competition with a 3-1 (23-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-20) win over the United States in the gold medal match.

Cuba will now travel to Mexico to participate in the Ninth Pan American Volleyball Cup in Baja California from June 16 through the 27.

The competition will grant four tickets for the 2011 Grand Prix, an event in which Cuba has not participated since 2008.

Cuba, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Argentina, Venezuela, the United States, Puerto Rico, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica and host Mexico will compete in the contest.
